WW2 Secrets From Above
Client: Discovery, Howells and Dinnick.
Year: 2022.
Responsibilities: I composited shots, and animated the tanks and boats for 9 shots over two episodes.
I was provided all of the assets for these shots.
The Challenge: To composite tanks or boats (depending on the shot) and follow the brief and script that has been provided. Then once the 3D elements had been animated and rendered, I had to make these look like vintage WW2 footage. Keep up with the demands of the client with any changes that came in, along with delivering the project on time.
The Solution: The solution to this was using the provided assets, following the script and building each element of the project as flexible as possible so that when the changes came in (and they did!) I was well prepared and could handle the changes without wasting valuable time.
The Process: The animation process was done in Cinema 4D, with rigged tanks and boats provided. I had to use the footage which was also provided to track the boats and tanks. This was rather troublesome in places.
The task of getting the renders to look like vintage footage was challenging, but once I had all the filters in After Effects set up it was very easy to replicate it for the rest of the shots.
The Results: The results of this project went out on tv. It was broadcasted on the Discovery channel and is accessible on Disney+. Include that picture I took with my name in the credits!
